Marginal Factors Tool

This tool provides estimates of marginal and average emissions/damage factors in the United States, calculated based on publicly-available data from the US Environmental Protection Agency. Estimates are available for different geographical areas (NERC and eGRID subregions) from 2006 to the present

Sustainable, Equitable, Efficient Energy Services Center

The Sustainable, Equitable, Efficient Energy Services (SEEES) Center has the goal of assessing the technological opportunities for regions to become leaders in providing sustainable energy services, with an initial focus for some of this work on our own region, by working with utilities, consumer groups, and regulators.

CEDM logo

Center for Climate and Energy Decision Making

Our center and its graduates will develop and promulgate new and innovative, behaviorally and technically informed insights involving the intersection points between climate and energy. It will also generate methods to frame, analyze, and assist key stakeholders in addressing important decisions regarding climate change and the necessary transformation of the world’s energy system. CEDM is a distributed research cooperative agreement, anchored at the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University.

Scott Institute

Scott Institute for Energy Innovation

The Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University is focused on the following issues:

  • Using and delivering the energy we already have far more efficiently.
  • Expanding the mix of energy sources in a way that is clean, reliable, affordable and sustainable.
  • Creating innovations in energy technologies, regulations and policies.
  • CMU is uniquely suited for these challenges with our many research centers and longstanding faculty expertise in technology, policy, integrated systems and behavioral science.
  • What makes us different is our ability to seamlessly combine these areas for maximum impact.
Behavior, Decision, and Policy Working Group

Behavior, Decision, and Policy Working Group

The BDP Working Group at pursues basic and applied social, behavioral, decision, and engineering science, focusing on policy-related problems in the areas of Environment, CommunicationDecision ScienceEnergy, and Health. Behicle Electrication Group

The Vehicle Electrification Group

The Vehicle Electrification Group at Carnegie Mellon University was founded by Professor Jeremy Michalek and Professor Jay Whitacre in 2009 to study electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and battery electric vehicles.

CMU Green Design Institute

Green Design Institute

The Green Design Institute is a major interdisciplinary education and research effort to make an impact on environmental quality by partnering with companies, government agencies and foundations to develop pioneering management, manufacturing, and regulatory processes that can improve environmental quality and product quality while enhancing economic development. Students from many different degree programs at Carnegie Mellon can participate in the Green Design Institute activities.
